Itchy Allergy Eyes

What Are Itchy Allergy Eyes?

You may not know it, but that itching and discomfort in your eyes could be itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis, commonly known as itchy allergy eyes. When you come into contact with an allergen (a substance that you are allergic to such as pollen or pet dander), your body may trigger a reaction that causes this uncomfortable and sometimes unbearable itching.1

There are 2 kinds of allergic conjunctivitis: seasonal and perennial. Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis occurs during defined periods of the year (such as Spring), when plant or tree pollens trigger an allergic reaction. Perennial allergic conjunctivitis is a sensitivity to allergens in your daily environment, like pet dander, dust mites, and household chemicals.1

You may have both types of allergic conjunctivitis—for example, symptoms from a continuous allergy to pets might get worse during pollen seasons.1

catThe good news is that itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis may be easily and successfully treated by avoiding offending allergens and taking medications that can be applied directly in your eye.1 Be sure to discuss any eye irritation with your doctor to make sure you receive the right diagnosis and treatment for your condition.
